A Living Will is a written statement of a person’s wishes regarding medical treatment. It must be followed if the person is unable to provide instructions at the time of medical decisions need to be made. The health care proxy is significantly different from the living will in that it gives another person (the agent) the power to make health care decisions if you are unable to do so yourself. The living will has no such provision but simply enables a person to express his/her own choices regarding medical treatment. It is best to have both a living will and healthcare proxy.
